Hi, I'm Sandra Cole, RN, IBCLC, and I've dedicated my career to helping families navigate the challenges of breast/chest feeding and lactation. With years of experience in Neonatal Intensive Care nursing across Canada and the United States, including roles as a neonatal/pediatric transport nurse and ECMO perfusionist, I've seen firsthand the complexities families face, especially with late preterm infants.
I'm proud to have held the High-Risk Neonatal Intensive Care certification (RNC-NIC) from 1992-2020, and I've served in many roles as a lactation consultant- from private practice to Lead Consultant and Supervisor of the Lactation Department at Sharp Mary Birch Hospital in San Diego. I've also been a past member of the advisory board for UCSD Lactation Extended Studies. I was awarded the 2016 Global Healthcare and Pharmaceutical Awards, Award for Excellence in Neonatal Care- USA.
Over the years, my passion for supporting late preterm infants led me to write Breastfeeding Challenges Made Easy for Late Preterm Infants: The Go-To guide for Nurses and Lactation Consultants (Springer Publishing, 2014). This book is used in numerous neonatal intensive care units and post partum units as a reference, as well as in the curriculum at several colleges and universities.
My newest book- coming soon- will continue this journey of helping families overcome breast/chest feeding challenges and achieve success. Stay tuned for its release late 2025!
